Art and Design at Ainderby

What do our children say about Art and Design?

“I love art, you can try different artistic techniques.”

“You can paint a picture how you see it in your imagination.”

“We continually improve our skills.”

Art Intent

We aim for our children to have a love of art, understanding that what they create is individual to them and an expression of their thoughts, ideas and emotions. We are all artists whatever our ability. We want children to have an appreciation for different artists and be able to express their opinion and preferences. Children should develop a variety of knowledge and skills e.g. observation, colour, shape and texture.

Art Implementation

Our Art curriculum is based on the Early Years 2021 Curriculum and National Curriculum 2014 objectives.  It includes termly topics for all children from Years 1 to Year 6. Children learn different skills and learn about artists including local artists such as Joe Cornish. Staff, where possible, make links to the topics they are teaching in other subjects.

School take part each year in the annual local North Yorkshire County Show, entering a variety of competitions covering a range of media.

Art Impact

Children will develop their artistic techniques, learning skills to apply to different media. They will have a love of art no matter what their ability and show appreciation for different artists in the past and present. Art is assessed on an ongoing basis and tracked through the use of Target Tracker.
