Owzat!

On Monday 9th July some year 3 and 4 pupils took part in the small school's Kwik Cricket tournament at Northallerton Cricket Club. They all enjoyed the experience, especially as the sun managed to show up for part of the morning. They came in overall 6th place (out of 6 schools!) - its not the winning that matters but the taking part! Thanks to all the parents who helped transport children, provided refreshments and cheered them on!

Over the rainbow

On Tuesday 3rd July year 6s went to Ripon Cathedral to take part in the special leavers service along with other schools in the area. As they entered they looked around at the high ceiling and intricate carvings. The theme was Over The rainbow - no-one expected to be listening to Thomas the Tank Engine stories. They enjoyed waving their colourful streamers during the singing and handing in their special prayers which will be on display in the Cathedral over summer. As they left they were each given a special wooden, hand made cross to remind them that Jesus is always with them.

Hole in 1

On June 29th Class 3 had an enjoyable afternoon playing golf at Hambleton Leisure Centre. Staff at Romanby Golf Course introduced them to a children's version of golf called Snag Golf. We now hope to obtain some equipment for use back at school.

On your marks...get set...GO!

On Thursday 21st June all the KS2 pupils joined 1000's around the country to take part in the Great School Run and try to beat last year's Guinness World Record for the greatest number of people taking part in a simultaneous walk/run. Everyone entered into the spirit of the race and helped each complete the 2km run as fast as possible. Jack set a new course record of less than 9 minutes.

The netball's 2nd step

On the 24th of May 2007 the netball team went to the Allertonshire School to compete in the 2nd round of county High 5 Netball tournament.

At 12:30 the netball team found everything we needed to take and then found our transport and set off to the netball match. We were all extremely nervous when we arrived at the Allertonshire School but we all soon settled our nerves and were ready to play.

Our first match was against Mill Hill and we got used to the very strict rules but we played our best and our best worked wonders and we drew 1-1.

Our next match was against Hutton Rugby we played our best but the scores came out and unfortunately Hutton Rugby won.

Next we were against Topcliffe and again we played our best and we won 4-2.

After we had played all our matches we had a short presentation and a short talk from Rachel Place. The final scores came out and we came the great position of 4th out of 5 teams.

Warning...keep off the roads!

Year 6 pupils are taking time out of lessons to undergo cycle safety training. Thanks to Mr Pratt (road safety officer) and Mrs Atherton (kind parent) children have the chance to brush up on their road safety knowledge and cycle skills. Here are some photos showing them in action.

Fond Farewell

On Friday 25th May we said a fond farewell to Mrs Smith, our midday supervisor, who has been connected to our school one way or another for about 9 years. She continues working "over the fence" at the Dales School so will have to be on or best behaviour at playtimes...she might be watching!

Mark Cromack Soccer Club

On Wednesday 23rd May Mark Cromack came to school to present certificates and prizes to 24 pupils who completed his after school soccer course. These are the children who excelled in certain areas like encouraging people, good attitude and most progress made.

Green fingers!

Thanks to parents who helped year 5 and 6 children tidy up the school planters this term and donated flowers for them to grow. As you can see from these photographs it looks much neater and all the children enjoyed it (despite the wet weather!)

Netball success

In March Mrs Ramsden led our netball team to victory in the small school competition. Now they will be hoping to build on this success at the regional finals.

Football result

On the 25th April 2007 The Ainderby Steeple football team competed in a small schools football tournament at sacred Heart School.

The two main rules were:
- We were not allowed to kick the ball over head height, to encourage us to pass more instead of long shots.
- Not allowed to shoot inside the penalty box.

Our first match was against Appelton Wiske we won 2-0 with two goals from Jack, which made us confident ready for the next match against a slightly better team, Great-Smeaton which we just managed to win with an accurate goal from Iain.

The next match was against Osmotherly, which was a close 2 all draw with two equalizers from Iain.

Our next match was our rivals Sacred Heart which was a very close 0-0 draw.
We needed to beat Kirby- Fleetham to top our group and get into the final, it was a yet another close match with a lucky penalty from Jack which put us 1-0 up. The match finished 1-0 and we soon found out that we were in the final against Ingleby Arncliffe.

We all met in the middle of the football pitch to find out who was playing who in the finals. When the time came we lost 1-0 against a really good Ingleby Arncliffe however we all really enjoyed ourselves.

Gold Runners

The annual cross country event at the Allertonshire School on 9th March was another opportunity to celebrate sports-people from Ainderby Steeple School. Half of the school (37 runners) attended with many parents helping to transport and encourage the children (BIG thanks to all who helped) and a HUGE well done to all the children who took part. All the lunch time training sessions paid off because year 3/4 boys and year 5/6 girls came back to school clutching the shield for first small school!

Red Nose Day

As year 6s were going to be away at East Barnby for this year's Red Nose Day our school council decided to hold a fund raising day a week early - we all dressed up in red clothes and wore our "nose that grows", as you can see from this whole school photograph we all looked the part.

Silver Swimmers

The year 5/6 swim squad returned to Hambleton Leisure Centre on 22nd February to try and regain their small school swimming shield at the annual swim gala. Despite winning all their races and swimming extremely well they missed out on first place by seconds however they were all proud to receive silver medals for their hard work and were all very pleased as you can see from the photographs below.

Well done swimmers....watch out for these faces at the 2012 Olympics!

Stormy start

The year 5/6 football team got off to a stormy start in their first match of 2007. The football competition at Hambleton leisure Centre on 17th January was only attended by two teams so instead of having 3 matches to play they had just one. The weather didn't help matters as gales and rain battered both teams. They battled for 30 minutes, never giving up the pace and were 1 - 0 ahead at half time after a super strike by Iain. Jack scored a great goal in the second half but with only a few minutes to play S.O. managed to score the winning goal to win 3 - 2.

Tigers go back in time...

Last term Class 3 enjoyed a visit to Ripon museums exploring the historical theme "what was life like for children during Victorian times?" As you can see from their miserable expressions on this photograph they were glad to return to the 21st century - too much like hard work!!!

Visit

A special thanks to parents who came along to help!

Special visitor

On 22nd November The Tigers had a visit from Karen, a Muslim friend of Mr Hodgson's, who came to share some of her beliefs with the class as they are studying Islam this term. She explained some of her daily routines and how her faith effects her life, both at home and at work. Everyone listened really carefully and asked some excellent questions. All agreed they had learnt lots of interesting facts. Thank you Karen!

Off to a flying start!

The year 5/6 football team got off to a flying start in their 7 a side football competition at Hambleton leisure Centre on 1st November. They won their first match 4 - 0 against a courageous Brompton. A positive first half and a tidy goal form Iain put them ahead before half time. Two great goals from Jack and another from Iain made it 3 points from one match.

South Otterington looked a harder team to beat but with two more goals from Iain and Jack and another strong team performance Ainderby won 2 - 1 and finished on a high note.

The Tigers visit Crucial Crew

Ainderby Steeple were the first of hundreds of local Primary School children to visit RAF Leeming this year as part of the annual Crucial Crew event. Year 5 and 6 pupils took part in activities aimed at making them more aware of how to stay safe in different situations, from building sites to kitchens at home.
